Over the last two weeks, we’ve been dealing with heavy family matters, so we didn’t have much formal school time. We spent a lot of our days reading, baking cakes, playing outside, gardening, watching cartoons, and soaking up some cuddles.
I did manage to fit in a short lesson in preparation of our annual orchard visit, though. We started by reading The Giving Tree (Ronnie could almost recite the whole book to me because we really read this one all the time – its my favorite children’s book) and then we watched this video on YouTube that’s actually narrated by Shel Silverstein. We both really enjoyed this!
We took the opportunity to talk about love and why the tree was happy when the boy was happy. And then we moved on to the life cycle of an apple. This was a great pre-reading activity because Ronnie got to work with sequencing. He did a great job of putting each of the cards in order.
He also practiced counting apples and clipping a clothespin on the correct number. He played this a few times before it was off to the orchard!
