Today, after the usual calendar time, bible study, and reading through Jesse Bear, What Will You Wear, we worked on our teens again. Since Ronnie got tired of the stickers on Monday, I just had him q-tip paint dots on the chart instead. This worked much better!
We also worked on matching up some rhyming words again.
Since Jesse Bear talks a lot about what he wears, we focused on the seasons for a little while and used these Montessori nomenclature cards to discuss what pieces of clothing we might wear in each of the four seasons.
I also wanted to to work in some weather science this week, so we started out by reading Down Comes the Rain, which explains the water cycle, how we get rain, and the different forms of precipitation.
That reading lead into a rain science experiment. We heated up some water in a jar to create vapors and then put a plate of ice on top.
Ronnie really enjoyed watching the “rain” fall down!
Then he practiced pouring the “rain” into jars…
and into an ice cube tray.
Next, we focused on writing with these read, build, and write cards. Ronnie really enjoyed these. First, he has to read the word, then he takes letter tiles to build the word, and then uses the bottom of the card to write the word. He’s getting really good at writing his letters! We used a plastic sleeve so that he could use a dry-erase crayon and we just had to switch out the card at the top for the subsequent words.
Later in the day, we played another “What would you wear?” game with his magnet people. For example, “What would you wear on a rainy day?” or “What would you wear to a Halloween party?” or “What would you wear to the park?”
