How to Play
Have your toddler place the cut out shapes onto the matching shape on the file folder. Praise your little one’s success! If your child is learning how to talk, try this –
- Hand your child one of the shapes. Name it, with a happy tone, and ask him/her to find the shape. Example: “Here’s the STAR! Where does the star go? Twinkle, twinkle, little star…” Play with each piece and make a big deal about it.
- Once you see that your toddler is going to place it, cover up the shape and say, “on!” You are trying to get your child to repeat you. Once they say something similar to “on”, let him/her place the shape on the folder. Praise success! Clap and say “Yay! You put the star on the star! Great job!”
- Now encourage your toddler to say “more”. If he/she already knows more, try “more shape”. Repeat for all the shapes. Remember to make it lively and fun!
If you’re toddler is struggling with putting the shapes in the right place, its ok to show him/her a few times before getting it. This is how they learn – but make sure you’re first giving him/her enough space and time to find it on her own.
